Baby on the Way!

The Southern Hicks received some great news on January 18th...we are expecting a little Hicks! I took a test first thing that morning and didn't say a thing to David before he left for work. I had to make sure that it was true. So later that day I went to the store to buy another test and took it around 4:00. Once again, the test said I was pregnant. So when David got home, I was sitting at the top of our special hill (same place we got engaged and saw each other for the first time before our wedding). I told him that I got him a treat while I was at the store and gave him a little bag with the two tests in it. He was so shocked and excited!

We went to the doctor on Thursday, January 21st. They told us we were about 5 weeks along and probably due Sept. 20th.

David and I had not told anyone that we were pregnant. We were planning on keeping it to ourselves until after our 2nd appt. on February 10th. Well, our plans changed when the next Saturday (Jan. 23rd), Laura (David's sister) found out that she was pregnant and came out to the house to tell us all. David and I gave each other a look of "should we go ahead and tell." And we agreed, now would be a perfect time. So I went back to our room and got our sonogram pics and David put them in his pocket. We let Laura tell her story and then as soon as she started questioning how soon the doctor would let her come in for her first appt, David said "we can answer those questions for you...because we've already been." And then he took out the pictures. It was a great surprise!

While everyone was finding out about Laura's pregnancy, we decided that we didn't want everyone else knowing yet. They all did a great job keeping our secret. On February 6th, we told the rest of David's family. David wrote a poem to remind everyone to pray for our little one. We were all together to celebrate David's cousin's birthday and before everyone left, we had Laura hand out the poems as if she had found it for their baby. David read the poem out loud and at the end of the poem it says, "This is not Baby Harris, this is Baby Hicks." Took everyone a second to think about it, but then they got it and were so excited that two babies were coming. Click on the image if you want to make it larger so that you can read it. It is definitely worth reading.

We went to our second appt. on Wednesday, February 10th. We got to hear our little button's heartbeat and they let us know the baby was measuring at 7.5 weeks, making our due date more like September 25th. Laura also had her appointment that day and she was 6 weeks along with her due date being October 8th!

The following weekend, Saturday, February 13th...we told my side of the family. My mom left for the Philippines yesterday (Monday) and she had asked me to put together some pictures of the family to bring with her and show to the family in the Philippines. I put some pictures of us finding out we were pregnant in the back of the album so that she would see them while she was looking through the album. She was so excited and yelled, "I'm going to be a grandma...finally!"

Now that I have updated everyone...I will try really hard to keep this blog updated with everything going on. As for right now, just pray that I don't feel sick for much longer and that our little one continues to grow strong and healthy. I have been nauseous for about 3 weeks now...I hope it is only a first trimester thing because I need to eat. Our next appt is March 10th. So stay tuned!
